TI cooperates with Vonage to push the service of network phone
The news of January 9 from San Francisco, Vonage Holdings' company announced
on Friday, it already signed a technological agreement with Texas Instrument.
The former is seeking to make the Internet serve become simple to the
family user. The latter is a supplier of most pronunciations chip of Internet
phone.
According to this agreement, TI will design the pronunciation chip of
Internet phone for the service of Vonage. The users of Vonage that locates
in New Jersey need special-purpose adapters to connect their phone with
service business based on Internet phone. At present, this company has
already become the greatest supplier of service based on Internet phone.
Vonage has 92000 users at present. Its goal is to develop into 250,000
users by the end of this year. AT&T and other telecommunications service
supplier are putting out the new service business that it uses this new
technology too. The analyst said these new service business will overwhelm
traditional phone and serve the business quickly.
The cost of phone service based on Internet phone is cheap than the tradition
telephone's and the pronunciation quality of phone has already been improved
in recent years.
Prediction: 2004 Asian-Pacific MMS user's numbers will double but
has not become the mainstream
International Data Corporation (IDC) reports recently, in the Asian-Pacific
area, the user of the multimedia message service (MMS) will be double
in 2004. However, though the increasing degree is relatively high, the
multimedia message service does not still become the mainstream. Only
seldom some cellphone subscribers know how to use and hope to use this
service at present. Popularization on a large scale has to wait time.
The multimedia message service are propagated as next comer after short
message service, it includes these contents, such as audio, video, picture
and cartoon etc. in message. In order to offer these high speed data function,
the mobile communication service providers in Asian-Pacific area have
invested a huge sum of money in the network upgraded during past two years.
However, the growth of serving user's number of MMS is comparatively slow.
IDC announced that at the end of 2003, the Asian-Pacific area is 2. 3%
of the cell phone subscribers use MMS, this proportion will only rise
to 4.3% even by the end of 2004. Though the user number increases each
quarter, IDC estimates it needs two years to popularize this service.
The report of IDC also showed, the popularity of MMS will be 3.1% at the
end of 2003 in American market and hopeful to rise to 9.1% in 2004. The
popularity of Western Europe is 1.3% now and hopeful to rise to 6.6 at
the end of this year.

Polycom builds the Chinese Academy of Sciences' national video network
A few days ago, American Polycom company announced that it cooperated
with the Chinese Academy of Sciences again to dispose national video conference
network for it. This network covers more than 20 areas, such as Beijing,
Shanghai, Shenyang, Changchun, Wuhan, Nanjing, Hefei, Chengdu, Lanzhou,
etc.
