France Telecom to build the world largest IP videophone network

  France Telecom decided recently to adopt the products of Leadtek, a leading provider in terms of video and IP techniques, to construct the world largest videophone network -- "MaLigne Visio" to realize real-time video communications through the advanced QoS techniques. This will surely lead to a new age of telecom.

  Consumers can buy a set of videophone at a price of 260USD, or rent one. It is anticipated that the network will cover 75% of the population of France.

  Besides, France Telecom has gained the first group of Ipv6 subscribers. They are Belnet, Renater and ISP Probe. As for the company, this is the first commercial operation of Ipv6 business.

Oki Electric providing speech coder-decoder IC for VoIP applications

  Oki Electric of Japan recently marketed ML7204-001speech coder-decoder IC for the front-end application of VoIP. This type of IC has optional formats (G.729.A/G711) and can support the function of PLC, DMA and multi-path frame transmission.

Number of IP phone to exceed that of the traditional one in 5 years

  According to the research results, by the year 2009 the number of IP phone set being used in the enterprises will exceed the number of traditional ones. It is said that the sales of traditional phone set will amount to 4.3 billion USD this year, while the sales of IP phone set will not experience a big growth in the coming a few years. It will not exceed the sales of traditional phone set until 2009.

Fore example, in the medical care industry, the IP service which combines voice service and data service, will grow at a very high speed. Experts anticipates that in the coming a few years the annual compound growth rate of IP phone set and traditional one will be about 20%.
