Sales of mobile phone enhancing the development of VoIP IC market

  According to In-Stat, the sales value of VoIP IC will increase from 137.6 million USD (2003) to 938.4 million USD in 2008. Major force for the quick growth of sales comes from the "double mode" cellular mobile phone (through WLAN) which has VoIP functions. This kind of mobile will gain the favor of major customers in 2006, and occupy more market share after 2007.
In-Stat thinks that VoIP has a bright prospect. Sam Lucero, analyst of In-Stat says: "although it is the fixed VoIP that develops first, the mobile VoIP business will provide more opportunities for the providers of VoIP chip and equipment.

  In-Stat also points out that within the forecast period, all the mobile phone will have the Wi-Fi functions.

CHINAMOTION providing fixed-line value added service

  After one year's operation, CHINAMOTION announced recently that it will work together with its partners to provide new services, including fixed-line color ring, background music service (BGM), voice message, voice phone book, voice network, Internet fax, telephone alarm clock and so on. It is learnt from the Ministry of Information Industry that the business income from mobile messaging service was over 10 billion CNY in 2003, while in 2004 the figure will be twice as much. It is just due to the great potential of growth that CHINAMOTION makes great efforts to provide the fixed-line value added service.

MicroSoft cooperating with Alcatel to develop enterprise-oriented IP telephone

  France Telecom company Alcatel announced on Thursday that it has signed a cooperation agreement with MicroSoft to help the latter develop an application software to enable the subscribers to make phone calls with the computer.

  According to the agreement, The Genesys department of Alcatel will work together with the Real-Time Collaboration team of MicroSof to develop IM service and provide integrated telephone application solutions to enterprises through the next generation of IM and telecom software "Istanbul" as provided by MicroSoft.

  The cooperation shows MicroSoft's determination to gain more market share on the integrated market of telephone and computer. The company has established the same cooperation relationship with Siemens AG earlier this week.

  Details on financial matters in the cooperation have not been disclosed yet.
