IDC: IP telephone popular in European and American enterprises, growing at 14%

According to IDC's tracing report on IP telephone service in the Western Europe, IP telephone service has been growing at a rate of 13% for consecutive three quarters, and the total income in this field has reached 77 million USD. The growth rate of IP mobile phone service is as high as 14%. In terms of both business income and installation volume, Cisco ranks No.1 on the market, followed by Avaya.

As the IP telephone equipment analyst Rogier Mol says, IP telephone has been installed in many companies in Western Europe, and at present there is not any sign that the growth will slow down. Obviously, IP telephone is dominating the western European market, as more and more public sectors begun to adopt such service. In the fourth quarter of 2004, IP telephone service is mainly allocated in the health department and local government, while in Britain, the leader is NHS.

There are many reasons for such a change. First of all, it is the lower cost of IP telephone service that draws the attention of these companies, while later, it is the various functions of IP telephone that attracted them much. For example, you can combine the application programs with the telephone system. Another advantage of IP telephone service is that it can improve the working efficiency of a company by unifying and integrating the information. IP telephone service market will not shrink quickly at any time. According to the anticipation of IDC the market will grow at a rate of 53% in 2005, and the income will reach 350 million USD.

The number of household IP telephone subscribers in America will increase from 3 million in 2005 to 27 million in 2009. According to IDC, with the traditional telephone operators setting their feet on the IP telephone market, household subscribers will be the major part of the market. VoIP has finally changed the trend of slow growth that has lasted so far.
Although the Internet telephone service, due to the lower cost, is attracting more and more people, it is still quite necessary for the operators to introduce the functions and characteristics of such service to the customers to avoid a price war. This means that there will be an integrated service on the market in the future.
