Yahoo cooperating with British Telecom to gain business opportunities
in voice telecom
YAHOO is trying to enhance the development of voice telecom business.
It has made a deal with several fixed telephone service providers and
mobile phone operators, including SBC, Verizon and Sprint, to provide
web-based services. In addition to voice telecom service, Yahoo is busy
expanding the coverage of e-mail service. It announced earlier this week
that it would make it possible for the users of Sprint mobile phone to
manage their e-mail accounts through the mobile phone. It also announced
the upgrading of instant message service to improve the free call service
between computers.
YAHOO attached much importance to the cooperation with Britain Telecom.
According to the contract, British Telecom will provide BT Communicator---a
certain version of Yahoo messenger service It can not only handle the
voice telecommunications between computers, but also can provide such
telecom service between computers and ordinary telephone set.
