VoIP port increased by 16.5% in the second quarter

According to the research report made by Dittberner Associates, in the second quarter of 2005the market share of VoIP port was 16.5% more than that in the first quarter of the year. That is, there are totally 16 million media gateways, soft switch and integrated VoIP ports provided to the market.

According to the company, the reasons for such a situation lies in the decrease of price and increase of the number of operators.
Dittberner says that Nortel is a leading provider of VoIP port, with a market share of 20.6%. following it is SIEMENS, with a market share of 18.2%, Huawei, with a market share of 16.2%, Sonus Networks, with a market share of 12.8% and Tekelec, with a market share of 8.8%.
Carribean and Latin America (CALA) experienced the quickest growth (rate: 43.9%), while the volume in the Asia-pacific region dropped by 9.8%。in the first quarter.

PCCW aquiring 50% equity of Netcom Broadband

PCCW has reached an agreement with China Netcom to acquire 50% of the equity of a relevant company of the latter--China Netcom Broadband Corporation (hereinafter called Netcom Broadband). PCCW didn't disclose the contract value. Before this Netcom Broadband earned much benefits from providing broadband and value-added service in Hangzhou and Ningbo.

IP telephone service license to be issued in H.K. at the beginning of next year

Recently, OFTA (Office of the Telecommunications Authority, Hong Kong) issued a document to the IP telephone service providers to consult about the conditions for issuining license and payment mode.
According to the proposals, the license is a kind of service license and will work under the grade II issuing system. Speaker of the OFTA says that the first service license will be issued at the beginning of the next year. The business scope of IP telephone service license holder includes: service I (services with all the properties of tradtional telephone services), service II (services with part of the properties of traditional telephone service) and other telecom service, such as Internet service, international value-added network service, external telecom services, etc.
