WiMAX operators prohibited to provide VoIP service in Taiwan

It is announced on August 29 that WiMAX operators is prohibited to provide VoIP service.
According to the local media, Relevant authorities in Taiwan prohibit selling telephone number to WiMAX operators. This is to pretect the 3G operators in Taiwan.
Sampathkumar, analyst of Frost & Sullivan thinks that due to the close relationship between Taiwan and China Mainland, Taiwan's experience in WiMAX will be of great importance to developing countries such as China Mainland, Brazil and India.

Alcatel helps Telecom New Zealand building VoIP platform

Telecom New Zealand announced today that it would use Alcatel's IP voice platform to construct the next generation of network (NGN). It will invest 220 million USD to develop this network and will begin the market promotion in 2007. It is anticipated that there will be about 2.2 million users moved to the new network in 2012. At present, Telecom New Zealand has a project of "integrating three networks into one"with a contract value of 1.4 billion USD. The company says that it believes Alcatel can provide the best solution for the construction of NGN.
