HKBN using Nortel's solution to expand voice, video and multi-media IP service

HongKong Broadband Network (HKBN), the second largest fixed network service provider, is now using Nortel's solution to upgrade the VoIP and multi-media service to increase the number of users to one million.
The 2 billion broadband users of HKBN will soon enjoy the VoIP service that has multi-media functions, such as IM service, video communications and broadband access. The service covers Hong Kong, North America, Europe, South-east Asia and Australia.

According to the report of Synergy Research Group, Nortel took the leading position in the market of soft switch and network gateway in the first half of 2004 and 2005. Up until now Nortel has provided VoIP and multi-media solutions to major operators in the world, including Bell Canada, Rogers Communications, SaskTel, Telus, Verizon, Sprint, MCI, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless and CompleTel.

China Netcom lost ¥850,000 in a fraud case

A gang of defrauders made a large fraud case against China Netcom by making phone calls 24 hours a day, involving a total sum of 850,000 RMB yuan. As the criminal suspect confessed, ever since Nov. 2004, they had been using false or stolen ID card to open 49 fixed telephones and 4 PAPs at Xinxiang Branch, Weihui Branch and Yanjin Branch of China Netcom, and made phone calls (chatting) all day and all night. They have got over 30,000 RMB yuan from the information center as a kickback. This caused a loss of RMB 856,100 yuan to China Netcom.
