Meyer has an engineering degree from Germany. He worked
for over 12
years in the semiconductor industry before joining Digital
Equipment in a
Business Development function for their board level
products. Later, Tom
worked for RadiSys for almost 4 years before joining
Kontron, driving COTS
products for the telecom industry.
George
joined RadiSys in 2002, bringing over three decades
of technology and systems leadership. Prior to joining
RadiSys, George was Founder and Chief Technical Officer
of Oresis Communications, a leading provider of converged
voice and data packet switching systems. George has
also held the CTO position at ADC Kentrox and various
leadership positions at Ameritech, and Xerox Corporation.
George is a recognized industry expert and a leading
technologist and product strategist in the broadband
networks & protocols, switching, and digital signal
and digital image processing sectors. He led the introduction
of numerous innovative products to those industries
over his career. George is a leader in multiple industry
standards committees and forums, a prolific author,
speaker and patent holder, and a member of the Broadband
Solutions Hall of Fame. George holds a B.S.E.E. in communications
from Cairo University in Cairo, Egypt and an M.S.E.E.
in communications from Stevens Institute of Technology
in New Jersey. In addition, George has completed postgraduate
work at SMU in Dallas, Texas and at USC in Los Angeles,
California.
Practical
Considerations for ATCA and uTCA Implementation
ATCA has become a popular standard
for building multiple network elements in a variety
of networks such as Wireless and VoIP Networks. It
is now making inroads in new services such as IPTV.
In the meantime uTCA is an evolving standard that
looks promising for a different type of network elements
applicable in the same communication networks, and
possibly in commercial applications. While it shares
some attributes with ATCA, it differs sufficiently
from ATCA that it warrants consideration of where
are the appropriate applications for each. This presentation
examines the similarities and differences and provides
a perspective on where each standard may be most practical
to use, with examples of network elements that can
utilize the respective standard.

Soden has been Product Manager at Acqiris, in charge
of high-speed digitizers for OEM and automatic test
equipments, since 2003. He has a degree (B.Eng.) in
Applied Physics, Laser Systems and Optoelectronics from
the University of Hull, and a Ph.D. in Advanced Instrumentation
for NDT, from the University of Manchester Institute
of Science and Technology (UMIST), United Kingdom. Before
joining Acqiris, Dr Soden was Applications Manager at
CSM Instruments for the development of instrumentation
for the test of Semiconductors, MEMS, and nanocoatings.
The
Future for Wideband PXI
The technological development
for high-resolution, high sampling rate PXI digitizers,
with ultra wide bandwidth performance is leading to
the minimization of complexity in RF systems. For
Radar, microwave and RF test systems, wide bandwidth
digitizers and Synthetic Instrumentation are allowing
the removal of the downconvertion elements and as
such are simplifying systrems while making them more
flexible and more accurate. This presentation will
discuss the latest in ultrawideband PXI digitizers,
synthetic instrumentation and the future replacement
of standard RF instrumentation.

Dr.
George Kontopidis is the SVP of Products and Technology
Strategy for developer platforms for NMS, shaping the
next generation of the products that represent the company's
core business. He joined NMS in 1989 as the VP of Engineering,
leading the architecture, design and implementation
of flagship products such as the Alliance Generation
of analog and digital telephony boards, the industry
leading Natural Access development software, and the
Convergence Generation IP telephony boards. During his
tenure, NMS has become an industry leader in media and
signaling technologies, with products deployed by its
OEM and developer customers in enterprises and operator
networks in close to 100 countries around the world.
Before joining NMS, Dr. Kontopidis worked at several
start-up companies and consulting firms in Greece, Netherlands,
and Germany. In the US, he worked for Sea Data Corp,
an instrumentation company of underwater and environmental
monitoring systems and Pacer Systems, a services company.
Dr. Kontopidis also taught at Harvard University's Extension
School. He has a BSEE/ME degree from the National Technical
University of Athens, an MSEE degree in Computer Engineering
& Automatic Control, and a PhD degree in Signal
Processing from the University of New Hampshire. He
is an active member of various professional societies,
including IEEE, ACM and various local Boston chapters.
IMS
network elements based on AdvancedTCA
The IP Multimedia Subsystem is a converged
architecture for the next generation networks including
wireline, wireless, cable, MVNOs, etc. Differences
from the Intelligent Network is standardization of
interfaces, standardization of application services
and openess of all building blocks. AdvancedTCA has
emerged as an industry standard platform, especially
optimized for carrier grade equipment using commodity
processing units. Futhermore, other industry standards
such as the Service Availabiliy Forum, ITU and IETF
protocols, and robust commercial and open source operating
systems, are poised to replace monolithic implementations
of network elements. This presentation describes how
various IMS elements could be implemented using AdvancdTCA
and other open standards. Candidate elements include
the Call Session Control Function (Serving, Proxy
and Interogating), the Media Resource Function (Controlling
and Processing) and a multiplicity of Gateway Functions.
The NMS Communications' Vision Servers offer highly
functional Pre-IMS blocks transitioning to fully IMS
compliant elements.
